Steep mogul hills are challenging for just about everybody. The bumps are bigger, more rutted and it’s harder than ever to control your speed. The truth is, however, is you need to ski them almost identically to normal moguls. Just because of the steepness, many people start skiing defensively by letting their feet get out in front of them and letting their hips drop back. While skiing steeps, it’s important to stay disciplined by keeping you feet underneath you, with you hips forward and hand pointing down the hill. Make sure that your shoulders stay square down the hill and don’t turn sideways. Just be patient and let the bump come to you without “throwing your feet at it.” Even though it’s scary, you have to be even more forward than you would on normal moguls and start absorption in order to achieve as much backside pressure as possible. It takes some getting used to, but keep staying forward and square and soon enough steeps will be cake!
